Spinners Geranium, Geranium 'Spinners', displays generous billows of intricately cut foliage and a lasting display of large true-blue flowers. The flowers bloom for many weeks throughout summer. Planted at the base of a large rose or adjacent to an arbor or fence, this delightful gem will weave itself into the upper stratosphere of the garden. Spinners Geranium is a long-flowering hybrid that needs to be pinched rather heavily after flowering to encourage blooming throughout the summer. This geranium appreciates a moist site and can easily be divided in spring or fall. Spinners often has attractive red fall color. Plant in masses for maximum effect. 'Spinners' takes its name from the nursery where it was raised by Peter Chappell in the mid-1980s.

Grass - Blue Fescue, Festuca Glauca 'Pepindale Blue', is one of the more intense blue-leaved selections, retaining its color all season. Tan spikes appear in early summer. This gorgeous looking small grass is a wonderful addition to your garden. With its attractive blue foliage and small size (1' x 1') there is a spot or two for this grass in any garden. Blue Fescue prefers dry, well-drained soil, likes the sun, and is drought tolerant. It is evergreen and excellent for mass planting, edging, or in the rock garden. Clumps are easily divided in early spring, and this should be done every 2 to 3 years. In colder winter regions the leaves should be trimmed back in late winter right to the base. If desired, flower spikes may also be removed in summer.

Grass - Giant Chinese Silver, Miscanthus 'Giganteus', is a large perennial grass (it can grow up to 13 feet in height) and lends a tropical effect to any landscape. The flowers start as red clusters, mature to white and then dry and persist into winter. In cold, snowy climates, it is a giant in the garden and provides year-round interest and remains standing through heavy snowfalls. Giant Chinese Silver is particularly effective when used as a specimen in a park or zoo, or use as a border, screen, hedge, background plant, massing, or by the water. Miscanthus is an environmentally friendly plant. Its large root system captures nutrients, and stems provide wildlife cover. For grasses like Miscanthus you shouldn't skimp on sun. They may flop or not bloom very well. Provide a growing area in full sun or part shade and with a moist soil.
